Your child will learn how to write lab reports based on experiments they observe and conduct. They will need to ask a question, craft a hypothesis, determine the steps for the procedure, record their results, and form a conclusion.
We will learn about how to change our hypothesis and retest if we find our conclusion to be incorrect.
We have started by observing other experiments, however by the end of this unit your child will have the opportunity to conduct their own experiment and write a lab report based on all of the necessary steps.

Current Reading Unit: |
Non-Fiction Book Clubs |
We have just begun a new unit on non-fiction texts. We are currently working on activating prior knowledge before we begin reading, recording what we have learned from the text, and asking questions we are still wondering about to guide our future reading and research.
Your child will have an opportunity in coming weeks to share what they have learned with their classmates, summarize their reading, make connections between different parts of their reading, make conclusions, and ask more questions. Encourage your child to tell you what new information they have obtained by reading non-fiction texts in class. I challenge you to work with your child together to research to learn more about a topic they are interested in at home. If your child brings what they have learned to me they will receive a prize!

Word Work |
Each week your child will be given a new set of vocabulary words on Monday. Tuesday they will record the definition and draw a picture of each word. Wednesday we will write sentences with the words together as a class. Thursday your student will work with a partner to create a silly story using all of their vocabulary words. On Friday they will complete an assessment called a CLOZE read where they will place their words in the correct blanks.
Throughout the week they will have many opportunities to work with these words to ensure they have mastered them in time for their assessment on Friday.
Below are a few links you and your child can use to help practice his/her words.
